German-Speaking Countries
All the German-speaking countries are located in western Europe. Three of them are officially only German-speaking: Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein. The other three, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg have several official languages. German, as well as English, is a Germanic language; it is in the larger language family of Indo-European. English is a sister language of German - they have very similar roots. |

Curriculum and Learning Philosophies
The Ohio Foreign Language Association is where the Northmont World Language Department gets much of its philosophy for teaching our students a second language. It aligns itself with all state standards and testing requirements, and keeps up with college entrance expectations.
